About
This site was created in response to:
- A frustration at the accelerating misalignment between the behaviors of the powerful few and the norms and hopes of a decent and less empowered many.
- A suspicion that the misaligned powerful do not actually enjoy the level of support they believe, and that we are led to believe, they have.
- A belief that it is worse for everyone, including the misaligned powerful, to keep quiet. Confrontation can be compassionate. Niceness can be disastrous.
- A dissatisfaction with the tools of protest — letters, social media, marches — that while still essential can feel too transient relative to the intensity and duration of the energy that invokes them.
- A desire to provide a cathartic, slightly dark, but playful experience for a disheartened individual to register their frustrations with the misaligned powerful, while contributing to a persistent global pool of shared resistance and support.
- A concern that governments are, or are increasingly tempted to, infringe on individual privacy by forcing social media companies to identify those who lawfully express views counter to those in power. Perhaps a more anonymous but still communal form of protest could help?
- A curiosity about what a public pooling of living sentiment might reveal and what actions (and reactions) it might provoke in both the called-out powerful and in the united disempowered.
- A wish to learn more about and celebrate those who are doing good in the world, with the hope that any elevation leads to more support for their good work.
- An absence of experience in working with AI tools and a desire to learn by doing.
And, as that this site was created in partnership with an AI that is rapidly becoming more capable of understanding and taking action in our world, it was hard not to think about questions like:…
- Who do emerging super intelligences — particularly one encouraged to pursue an ethical practice — consider as worthy ethical exemplars? And, who might they consider ethically problematic? How closely would their lists align with our lists?
- If a super intelligence emerges that remains interested in advancing the betterment of humankind in alignment with human values, who would humankind collectively endorse as those most worthy of empowering and those most in need of being disempowered?
